Michigan City Indiana Lawyer Discusses Facebook Death Threat

Michigan City Indiana lawyer discusses a death threat on Facebook because of criticism.

I have discussed how social media can hurt a personal injury here and here. My hard and fast rule about social media is this, before you hit “insert” or “post” or “comment” on social media that you picture your statement on a movie screen with your parents, teachers, employers, law enforcement or jurors in the audience.

A recent story in the NWI Times reported that a 15 year old was arrested because he posted a death threat on Facebook in retaliation because the other person criticized his grammar on another social media site. According to the article:

The boy told police he was upset the other person had commented on Facebook about his bad grammar. He said he also was upset because the other user had used a racist slang toward him. He said he had no intention of following through on the threats, does not have access to a gun and had found the posted photo of the gun online, police said.

A few months ago, a Lakeland, Florida teenager killed herself because she was allegedly being bullied by other teens on Facebook.

These stories remind us that social media can have a powerful impact on our lives and the lives of others. We should think before we post comments, photos and/or videos on social media sites because the results can be a disaster.
