CERVICOGENIC VERTIGO (DIZZINESS) AFTER A CAR ACCIDENT?
March 12, 2015
I recently received this question.
Q. I INJURED MY NECK IN A REAR-END CRASH AND MY DOCTOR TOLD ME THAT I HAVE A WHIPLASH. THE PROBLEM IS THAT I'VE DEVELOPED DIZZINESS THAT JUST WON'T GO AWAY. HAVE YOU SEEN THIS PROBLEM WITH ANY OF YOUR CLIENTS?
A. Insurance companies don't want to hear it but whiplash can cause post-traumatic cervical vertigo or dizziness.
The hallmark of this condition is that the dizziness comes one when moving the neck. Over the years, I have heard people complain of dizziness trigger when turning their head to right while backing up their car or turning their head to the left when pulling out into traffic.
The problem with this condition is that the insurance industry and their stable of doctors try to say that it doesn't exist and it's all in the injured person's head. So the key to getting better and receiving the compensation that you deserve is first seeing a doctor that treats this condition often and then speaking with a lawyer that understands how and why a whiplash can cause longstanding vertigo or dizziness issues.
