Tractor Trailer Crash On I-65 In Lowell

Northwest Indiana truck accident attorney discusses a recent semi on semi crash on I-65 near Lowell, Indiana.

The Post-Trib recently ran a report about a truck accident on I-65 involving two tractor-trailers. The report noted that one semi ran into the back of another semi. Both tractor-trailers were moving. If both trucks were moving, why would another truck crash into the back of a semi?

I have handled a number of tractor trailer crashes and the most common reason for this type of factual scenario is that the driver of the rear truck was either distracted or he/she dozed off, and didn't realize he/she was coming up on the other vehicle. Luckily, in this reported accident the truck drivers were not seriously hurt.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration understands that distracted driving is one of the causes of truck accidents and so it issued rules outlawing texting or handheld devices for truck drivers hauling hazardous materials. We all have a lot going on in our daily lives and multitasking is where it's at; however, we should not multitask when driving because in a split second we can change the lives of many.
