The role alcohol plays in Indiana accidents

Posted by Guy DiMartino | Dec 26, 2014 | 0 Comments

I can't tell you how many accident and injury cases over the years I've been involved in where alcohol played a role, but I can tell you that there have been many. There are a number of reasons why drinking and driving, boating or taking part in recreational activities is so dangerous – and all that has to do with our human nervous systems.

Alcohol negatively impacts our nervous system in at least four ways:

  • We lose judgment
  • We lose depth perception
  • We lose reaction time and
  • We lose higher cortical function

Loss of these normal brain functions coupled with the fact that cars, trucks, boats are dangerous, powerful, fast machines set up the perfect storm for accidents causing injury and death.

I have no doubt that if we were to due a failure analysis on any alcohol related accident, we would be able to track the reason the accident happened to a loss of one or more of the above functions.

If you have any questions about an alcohol related injury, you can always call our Michigan City personal injury lawyers at (219) 874-4878.
